Our Code of Ethics
Rimland Services recognizes its responsibility to foster an environment that promotes and helps ensure ethical behavior by everyone involved with it, including board members, employees, and consultants. This includes articulating ethical principles, values and standards; promoting those principles, values, and standards through education, peer modeling, and consultation; developing and implementing methods to help leadership monitor the ethics of their behavior and attitudes; adjudicating complaints of unethical behavior; and taking corrective action when warranted.
Our ethics policy statement contains four principles to be considered and balanced in decision making by all board members, employees, and consultants serving the organization and/or its individuals:
Respect for the Dignity of Persons: This principle, with an emphasis on individual human and moral rights, and the right to make choices about one’s life, generally should be given the highest weight, except in circumstances where there is a clear and imminent danger to the physical safety of an individual or other serious risks.
Responsible Caring: This principle generally should be given the second highest weight. Responsible caring requires competence and should be carried out only in ways that respect the dignity of the individual.
Integrity in Relationships: This principle generally should be given the third highest weight. Board members, employees, volunteers, and consultants are expected to demonstrate the highest integrity in all of their relationships.
Community Responsibility: This principle generally should be given the lowest weight of the four principles when it conflicts with one or more of them. When individual welfare appears to conflict with benefits to the community, it is often possible to find ways of working for the benefit of the community which do not violate respect and responsible caring for individuals. However, if this is not possible, then greater weight must be given to individual welfare.
It is Rimland Services’ policy that, in all cases, its elected and appointed directors, officers, employees, and consultants perform their duties for the direct benefit of Rimland Services’ individuals under the realization, recognition and acknowledgment of their fiduciary relationship with Rimland Services and its individuals, and their duties of loyalty and fair dealing with respect thereto. They shall conduct Rimland Services’ affairs with integrity and impartiality, without allowing prejudice, favoritism, or the opportunity for personal gain to influence their decisions or actions, or to interfere with serving individual interests. By establishing a partnership with Rimland Services as a director, officer, employee, or consultant, the individual pledges to adopt and uphold our Code of Ethics.
