Employment Training Program

If you do not have experience in the direct support field but feel you would benefit from training than you would be a great candidate for our training program to become an Authorized Direct Support Professional. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) Training Program is a two-week program with courses designed to prepare individuals for positions working with people with developmental disabilities in the State of Illinois. The DSP Training Program is free of charge. Program participants are hired as a trainee and then upon completion of the program participants will receive permanent full-time employment.

Today, more than four million people with developmental disabilities live in the United States. Over 750,000 women and men provide critical supports that enable many of these individuals to live out their lives in communities across our country. It is the vision of Rimland Services to be a vibrant and accessible tool in the education and training of a workforce that supports individuals with developmental disabilities in their community.

In the State of Illinois, there is a critical shortage of trained and compassionate individuals to deliver much needed support. The most significant predictable factors increasing the demand for DSPs will be growth in the United States population, the effects of increased life expectancy of people with developmental disabilities and related survival rates of low and very low birth weight infants, and the aging of family caregivers with whom hundreds of thousands of adults with developmental disabilities are currently living with. If you are interested in the program please contact Carolyn Zak at cmzak@rimland.org

Benefits of Participating in the DSP Training Program

Gain employable skills

Increased earning potential

Flexible work schedule
